A LETTER FROM DUSTIN

Merry Christmas! It is truly the most wonderful season of the year! What are you most looking forward to this holiday season?

I had the opportunity to speak with a couple recently who is currently in the chaos phase of recovery. You remember that time right? When you are found out or when you find someone else’s secrets and lies? It has been 8 years since our initial time of chaos and it never ceases to amaze me how quickly those early moments can come flooding back. In my conversation with this couple, I was reminded of how far I have come. How far God has brought me - I would not be where I am without Him. Period.

This Christmas I thankful for a healthy, sober holiday season in my life. What are you thankful for? Remember, gratitude is the cure to our selfishness. When we choose to follow Jesus, we always have reason to be grateful regardless of our circumstances.

I am praying for you and your families this season. I am so proud of every man who chooses one more day of sobriety, health, and growth in their lives. Will you choose health and growth today? Let’s do it together!

Never forget, you are not alone. Transparent Recovery will always be a community in which you can belong.

Rooting for you,

Dustin

CHAOS: what to do when you first get found out. 3 critical steps to your healing!

1. Be Honest

Being honest can be described as “marked by free, forthright, and sincere expression.” Free of deception. The whole truth, nothing but the truth. Leaving no stone left unturned. No fine print. No partial truths. Be an open book. The full story. Nothing missing. The naked truth. No fluff. Just the facts. No smoke. No Mirrors. Crystal Clear.

Be honest about your mistakes, lies, and sins. Now is not the time to try to save face. Now is a time for reckoning and healing if you will embrace it. We can only deal with what we bring into the light.

2. Be Humble

Humble means “expressing a spirit of submission.” No more excuses. Own your mistakes, confess them, and accept responsibility for the following consequences. One of my mentors, John Maxwell, describes it as, “You must be willing to give up in order to go up.”

You want a healed marriage? Want to keep your family together? You must be willing to humble yourself and ask for help.

3. Make Haste

To make haste simply means, “to move, act, or go quickly.” Don’t wait. Don’t stall. Stop listening to excuses from your brain or others. There is only one way through this and that is FORWARD.

Take action immediately. Find a counselor to discuss your situation with. Attend a support group (we offer FREE virtual groups). Ask a pastor to pray with you. Confess to trusted people in your life. Do whatever it takes to find freedom! And don’t wait any longer.

Which step do you struggle with most? Why?
