The REAL Price of Porn
looking at the physiological and intellectual consequences of porn
How has porn use affected your thought life? Research has shown how porn can literally rewire our brains to a more juvenile state which can make sobriety that much more difficult. I want to share a journal entry that came after another relapse and on Tuesday October 30, 2018 I wrote about my frustration:
“Here I am again. 103 days sober and I blow it. Again. How did I get to the point of being so confused I lost sight of the negative, hurtful consequences of my selfish behaviors? My pursuit of relief or fun or meaning once again led me to believe that somehow a sexual experience could fix me or relieve the distress? For a moment, maybe. But now my distress has been magnified 100%!! I've added pain, hurt, and despair on top of a mountaintop of the same distress.”
THE LESSONIn recovery, it is imperative we learn how to upgrade our mindset! We must identify old, unhelpful thought patterns and develop new, healthy thought patterns. Can you think of an old, unhelpful thought pattern you have identified in your own life? Please reply and share with me! |

What I am Listening to
Does music speak to you? On my way to work David Crowder’s song, “Grave Robber” was playing when it hit me I needed to share this song with you! A couple of lines in the song are particularly meaningful for me.
The first meaningful line is, "Thought a wretch like me couldn't ever be saved.”
Can you relate to this feeling? Have you ever felt like you were hopeless, beyond saving? This is a trap we can find ourselves in - it’s called shame. Shame tells us we are hopeless again and again until we believe it. Unfortunately, shame tells lies. We must be consistent and persistent in telling the truth to ourselves over and over again until we believe it. You and I can be saved!!!
The second meaningful line is, "But everything changed, I remember the day / When I heard Him calling my name."
This reminds me of Isaiah 43:1 "But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine."
God has summoned YOU by name - YOU are HIS!

Romans 12:1-2 (MSG)
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
I want to hear from YOU!
